I do use the camera... sometimes

Pics from Singapore are up. Go look.

The Vic Bar

Last night there were candles sitting in holes in the wall
And orange lamps shaped like chinese lanterns.
We sat in a sunken couch;
He watched while I trapped cockroaches in a beer glass.

Asian people always stare at other Asian people.
When I got up to go to the toilet
They looked me up and down,
In my pink wool jumper and pink shoes.
Me, well, I pick accents.

8 weeks ago we didn't know each other, he commented.
And now we're about to say goodbye.

finally

baby i'm afraid of a lot of things
but i ain't scared of loving you
baby i know you're afraid of a lot of things
but don't be scared of love
cause people will say all kinds of things
that don't mean a damn to me
cause all i see is what's in front of me
and that's you

well, i've been dragged all over the place
i've taken hits time just don't erase
and baby i can see you've been fucked with too
but that don't mean your loving days are through
cause people will say all kinds of things
that don't mean a damn to me
cause all i see is what's in front of me
and that's you

well i may be just a fool
but i know we're just as cool
and cool kids they belong together

On Going with the Flow

Under these lights my equator-sun tan makes me think of iodine.
While waiting for the water to boil
I noticed the knobs of fruit left clinging onto the otherwise desolate fig tree.
This third winter I've looked out of the kitchen window and wished the grey sky would clear.
This third winter I've stolen minutes from the 7.5 hours for which I'm paid to look beyond overgrowth.
It's the same every winter but
This third one I've summoned change rather than waited.
*
I said there'd be change come the height of winter.
*
I'll be packing again.
This time I'm buying a one-way ticket.
*
I'm going with the heart.
I'll indulge myself.
*
On being a tourist in my own home country
I will re-acquaint myself.
On reverting to public transport
I will use my elbow and stiletto heels.
*
As you get older you tend to be more selective with the what-ifs that are worth subscribing to.

Of the Seven Autumns Come and Gone

They shared one autumn
And let six others slip by.
In a time of elementary adulthood
Laughter was rampant, through brick walls, hearts, spring.

This is a country of angsanas and black mynas,
Of suspicious stigma and sweaty memories.
