Trivia

Recently I opened a new box of Saladas at work and found a broken quarter-and-a-bit lurking with the rest of the squares.
Problem was, the rest of the 2-and-something quarters were missing.
I think it's a valid worry that the rest of the cracker had been consumed prior to packing,
Although a colleague did point out that I was not getting my money's worth.

Suggestions?

It was all Paddington

Determined not to let another long weekend pass me by,
I booked the tickets and packed my (er, only) sensible Adidas shoes.

To the land of super-busy people, even busier roads,
And snazzy labels.

Some cities look like copper hardware bits from up high.
Sydney looks like an energy-saving Mirabella display of tiny silver stars.

I'd almost forgotten why I hate taking cabs.
Sydney cabbies have an affinity for rounding the fare up to the next dollar (whether or not it passes the .5).
I don't personally have a problem with tipping-
Except when a 3-minute ride feels like an hour on the Space Mountain.

When we got past the one-way streets and maniac drivers,
I really did like Paddington.
It was a beautiful day to be out,
In a leafy courtyard for brunch, through make-shift stalls in the market, down William Street in search for gems.

Dinner highlight:
Lotus
Note: the address on Citysearch is wrong - it's kind of a little further up/down.

3 days was all I really wanted to spend in Sydney.

Only when AJC asked did I realise that I'd forgotten to leave any details of the pancake place.

That Pancake Place

The flyer says

THE ONLY coffee lounge in the North-Eastern area which serves pancakes until 2a.m. nightly (then stamped in specky black ink, 'except Sunday').

Printed on thin yellow paper (with retro chocolate text),
There is a map, hours of operation (once again stamped not printed, in case indecision prevails), and promises of filtered coffee and fine pancakes.
There is certainly something about this obscure little gem.
If not the damn excellent pancakes,
It's the effort towards concealment with heavy velvet curtains,
Or the mural illustrating pancake-evolution.
It also successfully plays
The Vogue's My Special Angel, Kinobe's Slip into Something More Comfortable, and Roberta Flack's Killing me Softly, back to back.

Come as you are, with friends or solo.

Highly recommended to you mobile car-owners.

Changing Seasons

The clarity.
Of you, me, us.
When she lunged at me
I sat anaesthetised.
I'd been waiting for this
From winter I'd waited quietly.

March 1 2003/The first autumn night.
Momentously marked by hail storm and rain.
I shunned mascara-heavy outings -
It was us, laughable Saturday night movies, Plantagenet C.S 1997 (your choice, I dislike names), simple enough.

We had a couple of good nights.
When the snare to wander off(around) fell flat at Kookoo,
I trotted naturally back.
I smiled, then you did.

If I could have translated the silence
I would probably have cried.
If my lack of response baffled you
It's only that I was split squarely into two.

I slept like a baby.
I remember that you'd sandwiched my palm between your cheek and the bed.
Then I was asleep, then you.
